Overview of NYC Fire Guard Training
As you are taking your security guard training, you can at the same time train for your fire guard certification. Fire guard primary duty to prevent fires or to notify the Fire Department by calling 911. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) administers and enforces building fire code policies to promote fire safety and prevention. Certified by the FDNY, licensed fire guards play an important role in enforcing building fire code policies and promoting public safety. Different types of buildings and settings where fire guards are deployed require different types of knowledge, so the FDNY has developed different certifications.
An individual who wants to become a licensed fire guard in any of these areas must first past a test administered by the FDNY. Each license has its own exam. Star Security Training provides a 3- hour test prep course to help individuals prepare and pass 6 tests that pertain most to the responsibilities of security guards.
Test Location, License Fees, Renewals
All exams are given at the FDNY’s Public Certification Unit located on the first floor at 9 Metro Tech Center in Brooklyn . A $25 new application fee is required for each certification. Renewals need to be made every 3 years ($5 fee). Generally, applications are reviewed and processed within 1-2 days.

F 01 Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment
Owners of buildings whose fire protection systems are out of service are required to have a licensed F 01 watch person on duty until the system is back up.
F 02 Fire Guard for Shelters
F 02 is required for fire guards in buildings operated as homeless or emergency shelters.
F 03 Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel
Covers individuals responsible for maintaining fire safety in stadiums, arenas.
F 04. Temporary Indoor/Outdoor Place of Assembly
Fire guard protection for temporary meeting locations.
F 60. Fire Guard for Torch Operations and Construction Sites
Fire guards at construction sites where torch applied operations take place.
S 60. Watch person at Construction Sites
Required fire guard certification for watch guards at construction sites.
We are Workforce1 approved Security guard training School
United Security Training Center, is approved to accept Wordforce1 training vouchers. Workforce1 is an NYC government sponsored job training program. Approved candidates receive vouchers are good for free 8 Hour Pre-Assignment, 16 Hour on the Job Training fire guard training and NYS security guard license.
OSHA 30 Hour Construction Training Course
This course follows the 29 CFR standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Most construction workers and security guard personnel working at construction sites are required to take this course. It provides instruction on preventing hazardous situations from occurring in the construction site and provides guidance on knowing what to do when accidents happen.
